Iglesias started his musical career with Mexican indie label Fonovisa, which helped turn him into one of the most popular artists in Latin America and in the Latino market in the United States, selling more Spanish language albums than any other artist in that period of time.

Before the turn of the millennium he made a crossover into the mainstream English language market, signing a unique multi–album deal with Universal Music for an unprecedented $48,000,000, with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums.

Iglesias has sold over 60 million records worldwide, he has won a Grammy and Latin Grammy and has had two Billboard Hot 100 #1s and one #3, and holds the record for producing 19 number #1 Spanish–language singles on the Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks.

Philip David Charles “Phil” Collins” was born on 30 January 1951 in London, U.K. He is a singer-songwriter, drummer, keyboardist and actor best known as a drummer and vocalist for English progressive rock group Genesis and as a solo artist.

Collins as a child actor/singer who appeared as The Artful Dodger in the London production of +Oliver! in 1964. (He also has a cameo in A Hard Day’s Night, among other films.) He got his first break in music at the end of his teens, when he was chosen to be a replacement drummer in the British art-rock band Genesis in 1970.

Collins’s professional career began as a drummer, first with obscure rock group Flaming Youth and then more famously with Genesis. In Genesis, Collins originally supplied backing vocals for front man Peter Gabriel, singing lead on only two songs: “For Absent Friends” from 1971’s Nursery Cryme album and “More Fool Me” from Selling England by the Pound, which was released in 1973. On Gabriel’s departure in 1975, Collins became the group’s lead singer. As the decade closed, Genesis’s first international hit, “Follow You, Follow Me”, demonstrated a drastic change from the band’s early years.

Collins sang the lead vocals on eight American chart-toppers between 1984 and 1989; seven as a solo artist and one with Genesis. His singles, often dealing with lost love, ranged from the drum-heavy “In the Air Tonight”, to the dance pop of “Sussudio”, to the political statements of his most successful song, “Another Day in Paradise”. His international popularity transformed Genesis from a progressive rock group to a regular on the pop charts and an early MTV mainstay. According to britishhitsongwriters.com he is the forty-eighth most successful songwriter in U.K. singles chart history based on weeks that his compositions have spent on the chart.

In 1996, Collins had announced that he was leaving Genesis permanently. He formed the Big Big Band that same year, which played their first gig in honor of South African president Nelson Mandela, featuring Tony Bennett as a guest vocalist. With Quincy Jones conducting, the band played a series of summer jazz fests, including two sold-out concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The Hits collection was released in 1998, and A Hot Night in Paris, recorded with his big band, came out in ‘99. Although initially apprehensive about the project, Collins scored the soundtrack to Disney’s Tarzan (1999). “You’ll Be In My Heart” became his first big hit in several years, and earned him a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song. He also picked up another Grammy for Best Soundtrack Album.

Collins married for the third time in July 1999. Orianne Cevey, 22 years his junior, had worked as his interpreter after he moved to Switzerland. In 2001, his fourth child, Nicholas Grev Austin Collins, was born. He has three other children from two previous marriages. In 2002, he and Orianne set up the Little Dreams Foundation, which provides support and financing for children who want to pursue a career in music, film or sports.

In September 2002, Collins announced his retirement from touring due to hearing problems. Testify, released in November, included “Can’t Stop Loving You,” which became a huge hit on Adult Contemporary radio. In June 2003, Big will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 34th annual Award and Induction Ceremony in New York City.

His concurrent solo career, heavily influenced by his personal life, brought both him and Genesis commercial success. According to Atlantic Records, Collins’s total worldwide sales as a solo artist, as of 2002, were 150 million. He has won seven Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and two Golden Globes for his solo work.
